About

Agora Ceramics is a small-batch studio based on the harbour side of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where Sydney Harbour meets sandstone headlands.

The word agora comes from ancient Greece — a place of gathering. A space for conversation, exchange, food, and connection.

That spirit sits at the heart of this studio.

Each piece is made by hand in small batches. Forms are quiet and considered — designed not simply to be used, but to bring people together.

The Maker

Agora is created by Jana — shaped by a background in industrial design and years spent in sales and marketing, working at the intersection of product, brand, and people.

She has always been drawn to the idea that objects can hold meaning beyond their function — that they can shape moments, rituals, and connection.

A wife and mother to two spirited boys, life is full, curious, and anchored by time spent in and around the water. Travel is a constant thread — particularly returning to her homeland of Greece, where sea, stone, and long tables define the rhythm of everyday life.

Clay entered Jana’s world quietly. What began as curiosity has, over many years, become a disciplined practice — a daily ritual of making.

The name Agora carries a deeper, more personal meaning. Jana’s father, Constantine — who left this world too soon — embodied the true spirit of the agora. He was the one who gathered people, who lingered at the table, who understood that the simplest shared moments are often the most meaningful.

This studio is, in many ways, a continuation of that legacy.

Agora is made to gather.

The Clay

Each piece is formed using one of two clay bodies — Smooth or Mineral.

Smooth offers a refined, even surface; Mineral carries natural flecks that echo stone and earth.

Agora’s glazes are intentionally restrained — a signature white, in matte or gloss — chosen to honour form, texture, and the quiet beauty of gathering.
